Well, here’s where we’re at as of 6 PM today. Levee is holding well. That’s the good news. The bad news is that this morning, the Ohio River crest at Paducah was revised upward by 4 ½ feet – yes, feet (not inches). We’ve had another 5 inches of rain in the past two days all up and down the critical areas of the flood plain, and we’re now in a 1,000-yr type of flood (the predicted crest is 6 feet above the 100-yr flood plain). Needless to say, we have had to give up and go into salvage mode. We’re still keeping water pumped out, but we’ll give up on that shortly. The blessing in all this is that the sand bag levee protected us long enough to get everything moved from the lower level to safe elevations, thanks once again to the help of many friends today. We pretty much took everything but the paint off the walls – appliances, furniture, doors, big screen, mementos, clothes – everything. Water will be about 7 feet deep in the lower level if the predicted crest occurs. Forecast crest will put the water right about the top of the lower level windows you can see in the picture. But, we still have two good floors to live on! Anyway, prayers for all those who have it much, much worse. And prayers of thanks to all you who have helped us so much over the past week. All of you are really special people, and we are very blessed to have so many great friends. Stay dry! Blessings, Joe and Cathy Burkhead Kentucky State Championships, (4/15/11) The date for the Kentucky State Championships has changed to July 16-17. The change was made because of the Bluegrass State Games, more details to follow. Nationals, (1/9/11) Reservations need to be made ASAP due to a big car race at Chicagoland Speedway the same weekend as the Nationals. There may not be any rooms left if you wait. Eric Parents, (1/9/11) Please get your Jr. Bios to our EVP Bob Archambeau ASAP. The drop dead date is 1/20 but he would appreciated getting them earlier. ba-inquest@insightbb.com is Bob's address. We want to get all the juniors included. In other news we just returned from Atlanta for the Southern Region Council meeting. Of note is that Tim Mckune will be the Chief Driver for the 2011 Regionals at Mulberry. This is the first Kentucky driver to accomplish this. Congratulations Tim. Also exciting possibilities exist for the possible inclusion of waterskiing in the 2011 Bluegrass Games. Some issues need to be worked out for it to happen, but it looks good. I'll let you know more as progress is made. Eric |
